For Immediate Release
Victor Matthews: "Canvas and Paper"
Press Release
November 11, 1995 through January 5, 1996

Kantor Gallery is pleased to present Victor Matthews in his first Los Angeles show "Canvas and Paper" (November 11, 1995 to January 5, 1995).

As a young mural artist in New York's SoHo in the 80's, Matthews attracted the attention of fellow artists Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Julian Schnabel. Matthew describes his early work as an attempt to communicate "people's emotions, their insides…"

His present work demonstrates a continued interest in the visual tools of communication. Matthews layers signs, shapes, and colors with the same sensitivity with which he layers pigment, oil, and encaustic. The resulting canvases are rich landscapes of the artist's experience.

Victor Matthews' "Canvas and Paper" is on view at the gallery (8642 Melrose Avenue).
