For Immediate Release
A gallerist since 1995, Niels Kantor is happy to announce the reopening of Kantor Gallery. After the close of Kantor/Feuer, Mr. Kantor worked briefly as a private dealer from 2007 until present.

Kantor Gallery is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition "Action with Spirits," a new series of drawings, collages and photographs by Alex Rose created between 2007 and 2009. This exhibition is Rose's first in California.

Rose applies his works with a sense of ritual that reflects his distinct worldview and identity. He works in graphite creating tiny drawings in the margins of notebooks or on scraps of paper. Likewise, working with saved bits of fashion magazines, paper, and other ephemera, Rose creates magical landscapes and psychedelic experiences in his collages. As has been the case since his youth, Rose collects tiny discarded things to create precious compositions that are a mix of glamour and grit. As a companion to these collages, Rose presents photographs of fire. These photographs are a stand-in, perhaps, for the pieces that did not make it to the exhibition. Rose obsessively creates and obsessively burns and buries his own work, underscoring the ephemeral nature of art and life and the role the artist can play as both creator and destroyer of beauty.

Alex Rose was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1970 and currently lives and works in Cork, Ireland. He allows his work to be followed on his blog Porcelain Skull. His work has been the subject of exhibitions at international galleries and institutions including the 2009 group exhibition Phot(o)bjects mounted at the Presentation House Gallery in Vancouver and curated by Bob Nickas. He was named as one of the best artists of 2008 by Artforum magazine.
