Artist Biography

Luke Butler, a native of New York, currently lives and works in San Francisco. He received his MFA from California College of the Arts. Butler works in paintings and collage and much of his imagery comes from pop culture, most often from television and movies that influenced him as he grew up--these include, Starsky and Hutch and Star Trek--along with other iconic images, such as that of former President Ford. To Butler, these references are meant to evoke outmoded icons of masculinity with humor but also with a subtle critique of cultural mores. Butler has exhibited internationally and Kantor Gallery looks forward to a solo exhibition of Butler's work in October 2010.
