“The Art of Punk”
February 1st - March 22nd
Opening Reception Saturday, February 1st, 2003
6 - 9 pm
An artistic
zephyr is about to engulf Los Angeles in pure Kantor tradition,
as Kantor Gallery introduces into the art world invigorating
contemporary talent, innovative ideas and a rejuvenated gallery.
With years of
planning and dedication, Niels Kantor has moved his gallery from its
previous location of eight years and has recreated the former Zero 1
Gallery; which prestigiously held over twenty years of history
representing many Los Angeles artists. The Kantor Gallery will focus
on creative fresh talent that will stir emotion and tantalize the
eye, as future generations of artists are discovered and given
recognition. Like his parents Ulrike and Paul Kantor, who have been
selling and representing new artists such as Dekooning and Herman
since the early 1950’s in Los Angeles, it is now their son Niels who
continues the family legacy.
Niels Kantor opened
his gallery in October of 1994 with young new artist Jessika Wood:
Paintings + Ceramics. Throughout the years the gallery displayed
artists Becca, John Scane, Mel Ramos, Kenny Scharf and Henry Vincent
amongst many others. And exhibited established contemporary artists
like Roy Lichtenstein, Edward Ruscha, and Andy Warhol whose styles
have set an influential plateau of dexterity.
The gallery is very
excited to announce that local artist Kenton Parker will be
contributing to this movement his insight and experience, as the new
director of Kantor Gallery. Given the history of these galleries,
combined with over 30 years of experience, innovation and complete
renovation; the Kantor Gallery will surpass the limits and
speculations of art.
Diligent planning has
taken its form and the birth of a new generation of artists has
arrived. The Kantor Gallery will premier with tradition, mixed in
with modern rebellion in true art form as the Kantor Gallery
presents “The Art of Punk”. Opening the 1st of February 2003 with
original artwork from established artists: Emek, Shepard Fairey,
Dave Leamon, Raymond Pettibon, Mark Vallen and random artists from
the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s. The exhibit will include over 800 original
flyers, posters and books from bands Black Flag, the Ramones and
many more.
Opening reception
will be held from six to nine o’clock in the evening, Saturday
February 1st of 2003. For more information please contact Michelle
